A PEARLER OF AN EVENT ON THE TASTE GREAT SOUTHERN MENU

Locals and visitors are set to feast on Albany Rock Oysters, bushfood, fine wine, music acts from PIAF's Great Southern Festival, and a film when the 10th anniversary of IGA Taste Great Southern kicks off with the Albany Oyster Festival at Eyre Park in Albany on March 1.
A signature event for the whole family to enjoy, Chef and TV personality Poh Ling Yeow, WA food ambassador Don Hancey and Albany’s Dan Sharp will cook up a storm and freshly shuck an oyster or two.
Combined with WA’s first Bushfood Festival, a unique food experience led by WA’s bushfood specialist Chef Claudia Form, the 2014 Oyster Festival is set to become a major annual event on the Albany calendar.
Albany Oyster Festival organiser, Dan Sharp said “I am excited to be able to bring an event of this calibre to the Great Southern…Albany Oysters are so unique, I love them so much that I thought I’d put on a festival to celebrate them. Oyster festivals around the world bring in huge numbers of tourists, and priceless attention to the regions - I hope that this one grows to the same velocity.”
PIAF's Great Southern Festival will also feature with live entertainment from music icons The Pepperjacks, The Seals and Tin Dog trio with Andrew Winton; along with the outdoor film, Girt by Sea, creation of Australian writer and director Shane McNeil screening at 8.00pm, providing a fitting finale to the inaugural event.
Special guest Poh, who is returning for the second year, commented “I’m thrilled to be invited back to the Great Southern this year. I'm really excited to be part of a young, but brilliant food and wine festival and to experience all the treasures the area has to offer.”
The 2014 Taste Great Southern program is the largest yet, with over 55 independent events taking place from February 22 through to March 30. A fantastic array of some of the country’s best known and loved cooking personalities will pepper festival events and activities, including the legendary Stephanie Alexander and Anna Gare.
